Film Night – Wilding. “Biodiversity Good News” (PG 1hr 15mins)

Breathing new life into a West Sussex estate by reintroducing native ponies, deer, pigs and other wildlife, allows nature to thrive.

A documentary based on Isabella Tree’s best-selling book, Wilding tells the story of her and her husband’s bets on nature for the future of their failing, four-hundred-year-old estate. They battle entrenched tradition and dare to place the fate of their farm in the hands of nature. Ripping down the fences, they set the land back to the wild and entrust its recovery to a mix of animals both tame and wild. Tamworth pigs, Exmoor ponies and cows roam free. It is the beginning of a grand experiment that will become one of the most significant rewilding experiments in Europe.

“You’ll never look at a green and pleasant pasture in the same way again after watching this documentary about the rewilding project at the Knepp estate. … Knepp is not postcard pretty but its wild beauty is habitat heaven. Species virtually extinct elsewhere have sniffed out Knepp and are thriving. …Knepp is a heartwarming speck of biodiversity good news.” [ Guardian ]
